[For US Customers] Sales Tax (VAT) and Import Tax/Duties Exemption by U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement

Our Business is Exempt from U.S. Sales Tax
We export musical instruments directly from Japan and therefore do not have a "Physical Nexus" or an "Economic Nexus" in the United States.

As a result, we are currently not subject to Sales Tax in the U.S. For more details, please refer to Shopify's official guide.

Here's why:

  • No Physical Nexus: A physical nexus refers to having a physical presence, such as a store, warehouse, or employees within a state. This does not apply to our company.
  • No Economic Nexus: An economic nexus applies when annual sales or transaction volumes in individual states exceed certain thresholds. Our transaction volume does not meet these thresholds.

Duty-Free Eligibility under the U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement
Saxophones Made in Japan are typically duty-free under the U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement. However, proper documentation need to be submitted prior to customs clearance to ensure eligibility for duty exemption. The procedures for submitting documentation may vary depending on the state and the courier being used (Usually we use FedEx). For specific details, please check with the courier service handling your shipment.

Please note that depending on the judgment of the tax official, separate charges may be applied to the box or other included items.
